Jenny Gomez
Bienvenidos a la escuela! Welcome back to school for those of you returning and for those of you who are new! I am so excited about starting the new school year!
In case you are wondering, let me introduce myself. I will be teaching Spanish Preschool through 5th grade. I am originally from Bolivia, and I attended the “University Escuela Normal Angel Mendoza Justiniano”. I have my Teaching Certification for elementary school from this four-year program.
After I graduated, I went on to teach for seven years, grades 1 through 5 in the Bolivian Public Schools system which encompassed semi-rural and city schools. After moving to the United States in 2000, and (married to a Peace Corps Volunteer, Miguel Gomez) I worked at the Missoula International School <MIS> in Montana where my husband worked for the USDA Forest Service.
MIS is a nonprofit independent school that inspires principled global citizens and lifelong learners through a challenging bilingual education from preschool to eighth grades. In addition to Spanish immersion, MIS is an International Baccalaureate World School (IBO) authorized to deliver the Primary Years Program <PYP>. It is a curricular framework that meets international educational standards and develops intercultural understanding in students.
Working in Bolivia and at the Missoula International School (MIS) has provided me with experience and training in IBO practices which would enable me to assist in the implementation of the IBO framework. The fact that I have worked for 9 years as an IBO member gives me an appreciation of the challenges and opportunities unique to teachers and a school providing second language education.
My teaching history gives me experience and perspectives to work at this prestigious and spiritual school.
Language is fundamental to learning, thinking, and communicating. Language permeates the whole curriculum. Every child benefit from having access to diverse cultures, perspectives, and languages. Acquisition of more than one language enriches personal growth and helps facilitate international understanding, and exposure to and experience with language. In all its richness and diversity, language opens doors to key questions about life and learning and encourages students to develop responsible attitudes and find appropriate ways to act and make a difference in the world.
On a more personal note, I enjoy dancing, traveling, exploring outdoors, traveling with my family, and reading.
Looking forward to another momentous year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jenny Gomez
